Pack, S.H., Kang, H.S., Kong, M.A. Effect of Sports Massage on cardiovascular Autonomic Nerve Activity During Recovery period. Exercise Science, 16(3): 271-280, 2007. The purpose of this study is to find out the effect of Sports Massage on Cardiovascular Autonomic Nerve Activity During Recovery period. Eight men subjects divided into two group, Sports Massage group(MG, n=4) and Non Sports Massage group(NMG, n=4) respectively. Ortho test, for measurement of cardiovascular Autonomic Nerve Activity were underwent before and after treadmill Exercise. The data for evaluation in gathered through computer monitoring of the R-R intervals using a chest strap sensor applied to the subject’s body. First, the patient lies down (supine position) for few minutes(192 R-R intervals). Then, after a computer-generated signal (beep), the subject stands up and remains standing (upright position) until the second computer- generated cue comes on. This concludes the test. During the test the monitoring device downloads the test data into the computer, where results are calculated by the Nerve-Express system. The results obtained are as follows.1. Sympathetic Nerve(SN) Activity were reduced after Sports Massage during recovery period.2. Parasympathetic Nerve(PSN) Activity were overshot after Sports Massage during recovery period. From the discussions of above results, Sports Massage during recovery period had a positive effects of Cardiovascular Autonomic Nerve Activity(SN decrease and PSN increase). This phenomenon can explain the faster recovery after exercise by Sports Massage. |
