Differential effects of Taekwondo training on postural stability after fatigue induced by aerobic endurance exercise.
ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of fatigue induced by short period of strenuous exercise performed on motor driven treadmill on postural control of 15 Taekwondo poomsae players and 15 sparing players. Participants completed one leg standing with eyes closed test for static balance and force-plate test for dynamic balance before maximal aerobic exercise on the treadmill using Bruce protocol measured by Quark b2 (Cosmed, USA) respiratory gas analyzer. After completion of aerobic test the participant repeated one leg standing and force-plate test in the separate session. The data collected were analyzed by SPSS statistical package using descriptive statistics, one-way and two-way repeated measure ANOVA, independent t-test, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis with 0.05 significance level. The results of sparing players showed that the ankle plantarflexor peak torque were related to static stability. The weight, BMI, knee flexion peak torque were statistically related to dynamic stability. Poomsae players showed that the percent body fat was related to dynamic stability. The ankle girth and percent body fat were selected as independent variable in prediction equation for poomsae players. Dorsiflexion peak torque, RER, and BMI were also selected as independent variable in prediction equation for sparring players. The change of static stability between poomsae players and sparing players was significantly different. Poomsae players returned in 10 minutes after fatigue. The dynamic stability did not show significant difference between two groups.
