Association between Angiotensin converting enzyme gene polymorphism and Exercise heat tolerance
ABSTRACT
Park, K.S., Kim, K.B., Jun, T.W. Association between Angiotensin converting enzyme gene polymorphism and Exercise heat tolerance. Exercise Science, 15(1): 35-42, 2006. The variability of heat tolerance in young healthy humans has been known to be related gender, physical aerobic fitness, and anthropometric measurements. But, even after adjustment of these phenotypic fators, individual differences in heat-stress response still exist(Havenith, 1997). Heled et al.(2004) directly researched the possible relation between genotype characteristic and heat tolerance. They analyzed the association between different ACE genotypes with the variability in exercise heat-stress response in humans. The purpose of this study was to test the effects of ACE genotype on exercise(1H, treadmill walking, 5km/h) heat tolerance in hot environment(35℃, 70% RH). The subjects were 45 healthy mans (22.5±1.7 yrs) in university students: ACE gene II type=17, ID type=17, DD type=11. There were no significant difference of exercise heat tolerance among the ACE genotypes. Even though after regulation of the level of maximal oxygen uptake, the results were the same except for the first running time with sweat. Only the first running time with sweat was significant difference to ACE genotypes (F=6.254, p=.006). In conclusions, these results were likely caused that the temperature and the time of exercise was not enough to influence the heat-stress response.
