Effect of a 12-week dancesport program on obesity and insulin resistance across the FABP2 genotype
ABSTRACT
Han, T.K., & Kang, H.S. Effect of a 12-week dancesport program on obesity and insulin resistance across the FABP2 genotype. Exercise Science, 16(2): 103-114, 2007. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether or not the FABP2 gene polymorphism modulated responses of the obesity & insulin resistance to 12 weeks of dancesport program in mid-life women. A total of 94 subjects (42 of A54A homozygotes, 41 of A54T heterozygotes, 11 of T54T homozygotes), who voluntarily participated in this study, underwent 12 weeks of dancesport program at an intensity of 50-60% VO2max with duration of 60 minutes per session and frequency of 3 days/week. Only significant time effects were found in changed scores of body fatness and fitness, HDL-C, fasting glucose, and glucose-AUC such that regardless of the FABP2 genotype, participating into the 12 weeks dancesport was effective in improving those dependent variables. Therefore, the current findings of the study suggest that the FABP2 Ala54Thr gene polymorphism may not modulate responses of the obesity & insulin resistance to exercise training in this study population.
Key words: dancesport, body fatness, fasting glucose
