The effects of aerobic exercise on flexibility, MDA and SOD in musculoskeletal disease patients.
ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study is to conduct the effect of 12 weeks aerobic exercise on flexibility, malondialdehyde(MDA) and erythrocyte superoxide dismutase(SOD) in female patients with musculoskeletal disease patients. For this study, 20 females were recruited as participants who have low back pain and have similar physical characteristics. The participants were randomly divided into two groups, aerobic exercise group(n=10) and control group(n=10). And the aerobic exercise group was trained(walking program) during 12 weeks(5 days per week, 60 minutes per day). Blood samples were taken 2 times, which were at pre and post exercise to evaluate the concentration of plasma MDA and erythrocyte SOD. The results of the research were as follows. First, according to flexibility test, aerobic exercise group showed statistically significant difference. Aerobic exercise group, showed higher flexibility levels than that of control group. Second, according to plasma MDA level, aerobic exercise group showed statistically significant difference. Aerobic exercise group, showed lower plasma MDA levels than that of control group. Third, according to activity of erythrocyte SOD level, aerobic exercise group showed statistically significant difference. Aerobic exercise group, showed higher erythrocyte SOD levels than control group. From these results, aerobic exercise have a positively effect on flexibility, plasma MDA and activity of erythrocyte SOD level in musculoskeletal disease patients. So we wants to suggest regular aerobic exercise on skeletal muscle pain patients in order to increase flexibility, MDA and anti-oxidants enzyme levels.
Key words: Musculoskeletal disease, Flexibility, Aerobic exercise, MDA, SOD
