Kim, M.H. The effects of a single bout of submaximal exercise in hot emvironment on HSP70 expression of cardiac muscle and skeletal muscle in rats Exercise Science, 11(1): 285-298, 2002. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of a single bout of submaximal exercise in varying ambient temperatures on the cardiac muscle and skeletal muscle. Specifically, this study investigates the effects on the heat shock protein 70 induction, on blood leukocyte HSP70, blood lactate, plasma CPK, glucose and Ca2+ in the rats. Adult male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly placed in one of two ambient temperature groups (normal, hot). Each exercise bout consisted of treadmill running at 35m/min and 10% grade. The level of soleus, cardiac, and EDL HSP70 in hot and normal ambient temperatures increases HSP70 accumulation in locomotor muscles, such as the soleus and cardiac, but not in the EDL tissue. In addition, the observed increases in the blood lactate concentration, plasma CPK, and glucose concentration during a single bout of submaximal exercise was were dependent on the temperature. It is suggesting that exercise duration may contribute not only to the expressions of tissue and blood HSP70 but also to changes in the blood lactate concentration, plasma CPK, and glucose concentration.
