Effects of different stretching methods after exercise on delayed onset muscle soreness and exercise performance
ABSTRACT
This study was to designed to examine effects of stretching types posterior to exercise on DOMS(delayed onset muscle soreness). Seven subjects were assigned to one of four treatment group respectively: control group(CG), static stretching group(SG), dynamic stretching group(DG), proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation stretching group(PG). DOMS was induced in the non-dominant quadriceps muscle through eccentric exercise-induced muscle damage. Visual analogue scale(VAS), creatine kinase(CK) and lactate dehydrogenase(LDH) activity, range of motion, one-legged triple hop test were observed before the exercise and immediately, 24hrs, 48hrs, 72hrs, 96hrs, 120hrs after the exercise. The result of VAS measured that dynamic stretching group was lower than the other groups. CK was tended to be lower in three stretching groups than control group. Also, ROM and triple hop test increased in three stretching groups more than control group. It was concluded that stretching was beneficial to decrease soreness and to recover ROM, exercise performance after induced DOMS.
Key words: static stretching, dynamic stretching, PNF stretching, DOMS
