Changes of blood concentration of lipid profiles and body composition after 12 weeks exercise program in Korean adults with mutation of leptin receptor gene. Exercise Science, 15(1): 61-68. 2006. Previous studies have been found for the polymorphism in the leptin receptor gene being involved in human obesity. We examined the changes of blood concentration of lipid profiles and body composition after exercise program in Korean adults with mutation of leptin receptor gene. Subjects were consisted of obese group(N=47) and non-obese group(N=38) in Korean adults with mutation of leptin receptor gene. Body composition was analyzed by body weight, %fat, and BMI. Additionally, skinfold thickness and body circumferences were measured for the analysis of the detailed physical characteristics. Leptin receptor polymorphism was detected by polymerase chain reaction with restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RELP) assays. Percentage of body fat and BMI showed a significant(p<0.05) decrease after exercise program in non-obese and obese groups. All items of skinfold thickness except of biceps and thigh showed a significant(p<0.05) decrease after exercise program in both groups. Body circumferences of thorax, adomen, and hip, and thigh showed a significant(p<0.05) decrease after exercise program in both groups. Blood concentration of total cholesterol and LDL-C showed a significant(p<0.05) increase after exercise program in both groups, but blood concentration of FFA and glucose showed a significant(p<0.05) decrease after exercise program in both groups. In these results, we can suggested that obese and non-obese groups with with mutation of leptin receptor gene showed the similar positive responses to the obesity treatment with regular exercise despite of incident characteristics of body composition. |
