ABSTRACT
Lee, B.H., Kim, J.K. The effects of training on blood Leptin and 5-HT following the exercise. Exercise Science, 11(1): 177-187, 2002. The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of training on blood Leptin and 5-HT following the exercise. The subjects of this study were divided by two groups; Trained Group(TR) was 10 university soccer players and Untrained Group(UT) was 10 university students. All subjects participated in VO2 max test to calculate their 80% VO2max workload. All exercise test were continued until subjects stopped because of fatigue. In the blood leptin concentration, UT group were higher than that of TR group, and while there was a little bit decrease from baseline during exercise in the TR group, there was slightly increase in the UT group. At 30 min after finishing exercise, both UT and TR groups in the blood leptin concentration were decrease and there were significant difference between groups(p<.05). In the blood 5-HT concentration, there were increased both TR and UT group during exercise. And TR group were higher than that of UT group at the end of exercise, but UT group were higher than that of TR group at 30 min after exercise. In this study, training might be modified the energy homeostatic mechanism that monitors changes in enegy stores and elicit compensatory changes energy expenditure to maintain adipose mass at a set point. Also, increased the sensitivity of leptin and 5-HT may improve the body's overall production of hormonal adaptation related to energy metabolism, which may offer protection against obesity and diabetes.
Key words: Training, Leptin, 5-HT
