ABSTRACT
Lee, J.R., Kim, D.J. The Effects of Abdominal breath and Slowwalking on the Blood pressure in the female Hypertensive Subjects. Exercise Science, 12(4): 613-620, 2003. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of Abdominal breath and Slow walking on the percent fat, body mass index (BMI), resting metabolic rate (RMR), heart rate (HR), and blood pressure (BP). Twenty female hypertensive subjects were divided into two groups: ten abdominal breath group (ABG), and ten slow walking group (SWG). Obtained results were as follows: In the mean body weight, there were significant differences between pre-SWG and post-SWG (p<.05), whereas pre-ABG and post-ABG were not significant differences(p>.05). In the mean BMI, there were significant differences in pre and post exercise in ABG & SWG. In the blood pressure (SBP & DBP), there were significant differences between pre-SWG and post-SWG (p<.05), whereas pre-ABG and post-ABG were not significant differences(p>.05) In conclusion, Slowing walking is more effective to reducing blood pressure (SBP &DBP) than Abdominal breath. This is mainly caused by reduced percent fat than the other factors.
Key words: %Fat, BMI, RMR, Blood Pressure
