ABSTRACT
Ko, K.J. The Effect of Aerobic and Anaerobic Exercise on Leptin and Serum Lipid Components in Obese Women. Exercise Science, 11(2): 421-430. 2002. The purpose of this study was to evaluate and analyze the influences of 10 weeks regular exercise on blood components and serum leptin concentration in obese women. Ten obese women participated in the study after having given their informed consent, and engaged in health training, aerobic and swimming exercise for 10 weeks(RPE 12~14, 3~4days/week, 60~80min/day). Serum TC, TG, HDL-C, LDL-C and serum leptin concentration were measured in resting blood samples before and after 10 weeks exercise. Statistical analyses were accomplished by using t-test to determine differences before and after exercise. Correlationship was used to determine relationships between serum leptin and %fat, BMI, blood components. All values presented in the text are means±SD. The significance in this study was chosen at α=.05. The conclusions obtained from this study were as follow; First, in body composition after 10 weeks exercise was decreased significantly in weight, %fat and BMI(P<0.001). Second, in blood components after 10 weeks exercise was decreased significantly in TC, TG, LDL-C and serum leptin concentration(P<0.001; P<0.01; P<0.05), and increased significantly in HDL-C(P<0.001). Third, in correlations between serum leptin and each variables of total subjects, significantly correlation were found between serum leptin and %fat(r=0.811; P<0.01), BMI(r=0.646; P<0.05). And in the residual items were low correlation but with no statistical signification.
Key words: leptin, serum lipid
