Effects of three days golf round on physical fitness factors, the fatigue substances and the cortisol hormone.
ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study was to investigate physical fitness factors related to physiological variables (fatigue substance and cortisol hormone) during three days of the golf round. Eight no handicap collegiate pro golfers from K University were participated in three days of the golf round. Prior to each round, the blood samples at rest were taken to measure the level of lactate, blood glucose, ammonia, cortisol hormone, and fitness tests for equilibrium (dynamic posturography), muscle strength (grip strength), flexibility (sit and reach), power (sargent jump), isokinetic-low muscle and endurance strength were taken during this period. The following were the main results: The sargent jump (p<.05), knee extension torque of left (p<.01) and right legs (p<.05) were significantly decreased during three days of the golf round. The lactate (p<.05), ammonia (p<.01), and blood concentration cortisol (p<.01) were gradually significantly increased during the three days of the golf round. These results demonstrated that three days golf round not only weakened the power and leg muscle strength but also increased the concentrations of lactate acid, ammonia, and cortisol hormone in the blood. Therefore, evidently indicated that the training for developing the leg strength as well as for anti the fatigue are needed to maintain the optimal level of fitness.
Key words: golf round, fitness, lactate, ammonia, cortisol hormone
