The effect of combined creatine and sodium bicarbonate supplementation on high intensity anaerobic exercise ability and concentration of plasma creatine and lactate.
ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study was to assess the effects of combined creatine and sodium bicarbonate supplementation on high intensity anaerobic power and plasma creatine and lactate concentration. 39 males were randomly assigned to 5 groups〔creatine (n=8), sodium bicarbonate (n=8), creatine+sodium bicarbonate (n=9), glucose (n=7), and NaCl (n=7)〕. They had been pre-test of an aerobic power with wingate test and after 5 days later for creatine and sodium-bicarbonate loading, they had post-test. Statistical analysis was performed by 2 way repeated ANOVA for group and time, and paired t-test, one way ANOVA were used to assess differences between pre and post-test and among the groups. Significance was accepted at p<.05. The following results were obtained from this study. Average power, peak power and peak pedaling speed of wingate test were significantly (p<.05) increased in creatine group and sodium bicarbonate group.
