The effects of fall-related injury of risk factors on sensory organization and motor control function on in old adults
ABSTRACT
This compared the difference between sensory organization and motor control function by fall-related injury of risk factors in old adults. 40 subjects were divided into fall-related injury group (FIG, n=20), and non-fall-related injury group (NFIG, n=20). sensory organization test (SOT-equilibrium and balance strategy) and motor control test (MOT-reaction time and adaptation) were executed in posturography, respectively. Equilibrium was significantly lower in FIG compared to NFIG at condition 4(normal vision & sway-referenced support), and balance strategy was significantly lower in FIG compared to NFIG at condition 1(normal vision and fixed support) and 4. Reaction time was significantly later in FIG compared to NFIG at MF(medium forward), and adaptation was significantly higher in FIG compared to NFIG at condition 3(8∘ degree toes up & down) and 5. These results thought that fall-related injury of risk factors and especially dizziness in old adults lead to partly negative effects on sensory organization and motor control function.
Key words: fall-related injury of risk factors, sensory organization, motor control
